    Published on

Atlanta is a city that is no stranger to sports success. From the gridiron to the diamond, Atlanta’s sports teams have captivated fans and captured championships. And with the rise of sports broadcasting on television, Atlanta has also produced some unforgettable TV sports moments that have been etched into the memories of fans for years to come.

One of the most iconic Atlanta sports moments on television came in 1999 when the Atlanta Falcons made their first and only Super Bowl appearance. The Falcons faced off against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXXIII, and despite a valiant effort, they ultimately fell short, losing to the Broncos 34-19. However, the image of quarterback Chris Chandler launching a deep pass to wide receiver Terance Mathis remains etched in the minds of Falcons fans.

Another memorable moment in Atlanta sports television history came in 1991 when the Atlanta Braves famously won the World Series. The Braves were up against the Minnesota Twins in a nail-biting seven-game series, and the deciding game saw pitcher John Smoltz come through with a stellar performance to secure the Braves’ first championship. The image of Braves players celebrating on the field at the Metrodome in Minneapolis is a moment that will forever be remembered by Atlanta sports fans.

In more recent years, the Atlanta Hawks have also made waves on TV sports broadcasts. In 2015, the Hawks made a historic run to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they faced off against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Though they ultimately fell to the Cavs, the Hawks’ playoff run was a thrilling ride for fans and provided some unforgettable moments on television.

And, of course, we can’t forget about the Atlanta United FC, Atlanta’s Major League Soccer team that has taken the city by storm since its inception in 2017. In just their second season, Atlanta United won the MLS Cup, defeating the Portland Timbers in a thrilling match that was broadcasted to fans across the country. The sight of Josef Martinez scoring goals and the fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium cheering on their team has become an iconic image of Atlanta sports on television.

From the Falcons to the Braves to Atlanta United, the city of Atlanta has produced some unforgettable TV sports highlights that will live on in the hearts of fans for generations to come. As the city continues to grow and evolve, one thing remains constant – the passion and dedication of Atlanta sports fans who will always tune in to cheer on their beloved teams.
